We are pleased to offer a variety of quality, fair chase hunts for awesome Rocky Mountain Elk, on our large, well managed private ranch leases throughout south central Wyoming! Whether you are a rifle or bow hunter, we have the right elk hunt to suit you! Our private ranch hunts are conducted on several large, working cattle ranches, totaling over 200,000 acres of prime elk, mule deer, white-tailed deer and antelope habitat! We lease the exclusive hunting rights to these ranches for our hunting clients use only! Due to our vast areas and wide variety of habitat that we control, we are able to accommodate virtually any hunter’s physical abilities and individual interests for a successful, trophy Elk hunt! We have gentler terrain well suited for less active hunters needing an easier hunt, as well as rougher terrain to challenge even the most physically fit hunters! The bottom line is, we have lots of Elk and thankfully, we have no Wolves or Grizzly Bears impacting the game herds on our private ranches!
September 1-30, Archery Elk Hunts
We not only welcome, we encourage bow hunters!
Unlike many outfits, archery hunting isn’t a sideline hobby for us. Rough Country Outfitters has been catering to bow hunters for over 25 years! We are Wyoming’s true bow hunting professionals, specializing in exciting archery hunts for bugling bull elk! As veteran bow hunters ourselves, we have the experience and know-how needed for those close range stalks, productive stands and effective calling techniques necessary for a successful archery elk hunt! We have knowledgeable, experienced guides who understand bow hunting and work hard for our bow hunter’s benefit! Most shooting opportunities occur from 15 to 20 yards, but due to our open terrain, opportunities from 30 to 40 yards are not uncommon. Over the years, our archery elk hunts have produced over 90% shooting opportunities, & harvest success rates of over 75%! We encourage our bow hunters to hold back from shooting anything less than a solid 5X5 on our bow hunts, as we plenty of good bulls on the ranch! Many, big 6X6 bulls, scoring from 275 to 325 Pope & Young points, have been taken by our hunters! Wyoming is truly a bow hunter’s paradise, let our outfit show you the archery hunt of a lifetime! Antelope and/or Mule Deer may also be hunted in combination with archery elk on our private ranch hunts!

October 15-31, Trophy Elk Hunts
Our general permit, trophy elk hunts are conducted on several large, exclusive private ranch leases in south central Wyoming! Over 600 wild, free ranging elk, reside in our areas! For many years, we have managed our private ranch elk hunts with controlled minimum harvest restrictions, taking only good, mature bulls, solid 5X5’s and 6X6’s or better! With an average of 18 to 20 rifle hunters per year, we have maintained shooting opportunity rates of over 90%, with actual harvest success rates of 85 to 90% for the past 20 years! Numerous years, our hunters have enjoyed 100% harvest success on big bulls! Again, we do not boast success rates based on spikes and rag-horns, our success rates are based on good mature bulls, 5X5’s and 6X6’s or better, typically scoring from 275 to 300 Boone & Crockett points, with the occasional 325 to 350 monster bull taken as well! Due to numerous back-roads and jeep trails on our ranches, we can access the majority of the backcountry with 4X4 vehicles, not horses, generally making this a relatively easier style of elk hunt! We accommodate our hunters in our deluxe wall tent camps, situated in the timbered foothills of the big mountains, on our sprawling ranch leases. Our classic, high-country elk camps include a cook tent and large, separate dining tent, shower tent, latrine tents, and cozy sleeping tents equipped with padded cots, wood burning stoves with hot water reservoirs and wash basins, lanterns, clothes racks and tables, set up for two hunters per tent. Excellent, all-you-can-eat, home-style meals are prepared and served by our full time, professional cooks! This is an excellent elk hunt, suitable for most any hunter! Trophy antelope may also be hunted in combination with our general permit elk hunts! For the traditional meat hunter, we also offer highly successful and fun cow elk hunts, at very affordable rates!
October 15 thru November 20, Limited Entry Trophy Elk Hunts
Our limited entry, trophy elk hunts take place on large private ranches, located in the rugged high-country of central Wyoming. For many years, these tremendous areas have continued to produce outstanding opportunities for exceptional trophy bulls, from healthy, free ranging herds! No high fences here! These are very exclusive private ranch hunts, limited to a maximum of six hunters per year! The remote, rugged mountains of these ranches provide superb habitat and a safe haven, allowing many genetically superior bulls to reach their full potential at maturity! Again, we can access the majority of the country by 4X4 vehicles then spot-and-stalk from there, making it possible to cover many miles of rough country each day, in search of the bull elk of your dreams! Horses may be used on some hunts as well. These areas have produced numerous trophy bulls, 6X6’s and better, typically scoring from 300 to 325 Boone & Crockett points! Furthermore, there are very realistic possibilities of harvesting monster bulls in the 350 to 380 B&C class and better! Our hunter’s harvest success on these exceptional limited entry elk hunts has averaged 90 to 95%, over the past 20 years! Accommodations vary from comfortable cabins or deluxe tent camps, to convenient local motels near the ranches to be hunted. This is an awesome hunt, rifle or archery, for an aggressive hunter wishing to have a truly legitimate chance to score on an exceptional free ranging Rocky Mountain Elk in Wyoming’s high-country!
